Welp, I don't vent very often but boy, oh boy we had/have a huge issue with my FIL. He called us last Saturday afternoon to tell us he wasn't feeling well so my husband drove over to check him out. My husband called me about 1/2 hour after he left to ask me to drive down. I'm not a practicing nurse any longer and my license hasn't been renewed in over 20 years but, I went down anyway. My FIL several years ago had a few stents put in. Apparently 4 months ago, my BIL came over his home and took him off of the Warfarin and started him on a vitamin program. MY BIL has studied homeopathic medicine for some years and I believe thinks his knowledge allows him to treat patients. My FIL is not feeling well and has a visit with his cardiologist this Friday but is afraid to go and tell the doctor that he hasn't been taking his warfarin and instead is using ginkgo and garlic supplements, plus a few other things.
My husband all but hit the roof and was going to call his brother but decided not to until he calmed down. My advice to my FIL was to call my BIL and request that he go along with him to the cardiologist so that he can better explain why he took his father off of prescribed medicine from a licensed practitioner and feels his homeopathic treatments are a better course of treatment. I was joking but apparently I should have said nothing. Not my place to interfere in hubby's family business.
Can you guess what happened next? Yup, I got a call from BIL to stay out of family business, SO, now hubby is going to meet BIL to have "the talk"..
Oh Good Lord, fun family times! I just thought I'd throw this story out there. It's actually not funny but you get the gist. None of us are alone in our daily struggles.

Or you could go slowly and talk to her yourself.
But I agree, it is a hard sell.
Hmmmm, does she have a sister? A woman to woman discussion about this type of cancer relative to terrible medical decisions on your BIL's part may make the sister so angry she does something.
I think it's okay to use these types of treatments when dealing with non life threatening issues but it shows a callous disregard when you start playing the holistic practitioner.
My DH feels it's a matter of "whatever floats your boat in your own home" so he won't pursue anything he would consider crossing boundaries.
We're just grateful that the FIL is back on track but thanks for the concern Pepper. It gets tiresome sometimes and I just need to vent...
