Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
So my parents are aging, I live two houses down from them, I am the only child. My dad has severe scarring of the lungs due to breathing silica dust for 30 years, and has silicosis. he is on high levels of oxygen. Every year around flu season, he will get sick, run fever, refuse to go to the doctor until he is near death's door and ends up in ICU at the hospital for several days. My mom is sick as well. She has osteoparosis, and alot of spine issues. She won't eat much, says she doesn't get hungry, and doesn't like anything she eats. she complains about the taste of almost everything she puts in her mouth, and refuses to eat healthy. Basically if I cook it, she refuses to even try it. Well my dad's in the hospital now, cause he did his whole act of not being sick when he was, and refusing to go to the doctor, and now has pnuemonia. I have depression. I can't focus or get motivated about anything other than zoning out. I have alot of work to do at my place of employment. I feel like I'm walking in a empty yet thick fog, where I just don't care about anything at all. I want nothing, I expect nothing, I just feel like I don't care about anything at all.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

My dad was so stubborn and often ran into medical problems because of it and I used to want to pull my hair out.....
Ultimately our parents are adults and they're allowed to make their own decisions even when they're bad decisions
Once your dad is well enough to go home again you could talk with him about how much this impacts you and the worry that you experience.... I don't think that there's a lot more you can do though
My mom had a very poor appetite as well.... She ended up drinking more of the Ensure or Boost products..... They're high in nutrition and you can get some that are higher in calories..
Big squishy hug.... I know how very hard these times are..... Bless you.....xo
