Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.

The rehab/long term facility my mom is staying at had a care conference meeting today for my mom. There was a social worker, a representative from physical therapy, a nurse, and another member of the staff there. My mom and I also attended of course.
I was looking forward to this meeting because previous rehab facility my mom had nothing like this and their social worker was a nightmare to deal with. I thought I would get some answers in regarding to my mom's future (whether she would be placed there long term or not). I was appreciative of the meeting, but it wasn't exactly what I expected. It was mostly physical therapy talking about my mom's progress and what she is and isn't capable of doing. They recommend 24/7 care for her. None of this is really new to me.
I did ask about trying my mom on an anti-anxiety medication for her fear of falling (I had been pushing for a psychiatrist to see her at the previous rehab), but they said the doctor is worried the side effects would increase her risk of falling. It was nice to at least have an answer for that.
What shocked me is that they want me to push the office of aging to see what services I could get for my mom which makes me think they are thinking of sending her home again. I would love for my mom to come home, but I can't do it without a lot of help. I do not want to go through the same thing over again. I just can't handle it. I'm just so depressed because everything is still up in the air and I'm worried about what will happen.
This whole situation is terrible. I can't believe my mom was fine one day and then her whole life and ability to care for herself was stolen the next day due to a fear of falling.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

if there is not enough help, you need to tell the staff. if there is, you can organize it.
Knowledge is power, so don't get depressed, get on the phone.
between that, and pepper's ideas about doctors who know drugs...you may be able to have it all laid out to examine.
you are doing great. don't give up.
I think doctors often forget to ask the patient/client what is most important to the client/patient. Please know you are not alone with this, and that you are your mother's best advocate to regaining her mobility and freedom of movement.
Best wishes.
