Thanks for the help. We all need to understand this issue more.
I still feel so sad and remmeber how scary it was when my precious uncle forgot my aunt and thought she was a theif and punched her knocking her out then leaving her on the floor and walking out to beceom lost for three days. It was very scary becuas ethere was a grizzly bear roaming around. We were not allowed to help the first responders because of the danger of us beceoming injured by the wildlife.
Once that happened my aunt was no longer able to care for him in her home. Back then it was believed that minors should be kept away for some silly reason.
It is nice to learn more about what was going on in his mind and know he was just confused and not angry with my aunt. They loved each other very much.
God bless you
Sunny
Thanks for sharing your story. I would have loved to hear what your Dad thought of dementia and possible treatments.
Sounds like we had some similar experiences re. our parents. Mom certainly has been no angel (ie. bitch with mental illness) and is now in the throes of dementia, making her a very demanding toddler with OCD issues.
Great joy. She's in a very nice facility called "Personal Care" and she has her own apartment and gets to drive other people nuts.
I just bring her a couple items a couple times a week.
Dunno what kind of dementia she has -- it's some kind of cognitive impairment due to a chronic anemic condition. Kind of thing where she didn't know who I was referring to one day (I asked a few times, because this was the 1st time Mom didn't remember someone), then several days later she said, "do you remember when you asked me if I recalled So-and-so? Well, I thought you were referring to someone else. I know who you're talking about ..."
WoW.

It is so sad when disease takes over and effects behavior. It is often way too much for untrained or average care-giving skill.
Family can often upset relatives in care too. I have a friend who had to stop visiting because her Dad would cry but not remember why.
When she stopped going he was calmer. Isn't peace of mind the point in any care. Well to me it is.

Crossword puzzles and reading were always part of my parents lives together. Mom keeps with the puzzle in a.m. She learned to use a Kindle last year and will ask me for books every month.
I also linked the 8 Types of Dementia to the "recommended" section or this group if you want to copy and share with the Dementia support group.

Thank you for understaning. It was so scary each night going to sleep picturing him being attacked and eaten by that grizzly bear or the wolves or even the guard dogs.
I always wondered how one could forget a spouse of 654 years!
Funny too. I used to have some prejudice thinking my aunt should have put locks on the doors to keep him from wandering. Again, reading this article really shows that she was doing her best to care for him at the time.
It is very healing to learn things even later on. Memories have a way of popping up when we think they are all done.
That would be something to be marreid 654 years.
