In a few hours, I will be returning home, after spending 4 days away from my husband. (Our oldest grandson who is 25 stayed with him, plus I had some paid help come in.) Last Friday I flew to Washington, and stayed at my son's home so I could see another grandson graduate from high school. My whole responsibility here was to sit and be driven everywhere, not have to plan a meal, sleep in, relax, enjoy my grandchildren, and not have to make any decisions. I enjoyed fun times eating out, visiting the Market place in Seattle, and seeing where my grandson will attend college. My mind has been free and clear, and stress free. However, all this has made me reflect on how much stress we are under as caregivers. It truly is overwhelming how our everyday lives are so stressful, and how much we need times like these to get away. Care giving in some form for my husband started 20 years ago, the last 3 years have been intense,, and my burnout is immense. I hope all of you can do the same as me, take time for your self, get away, plan a day away, get help in, or whatever you can do to clear your mind. We need this so much. I will admit, I am sad to be leaving today, not looking forward going home to the care giving routine. ((HUGS)) to all my fellow caregivers!
