Can anyone tell me a good place to look up signs and symptoms of Stroke or what causes it? I went home for lunch today and something is wrong with my mom. She has been in poor health since I was a kid, but this is different. She has been acting much worse the last month or so than usual.
She has Afib, which means her heart beats too fast. She says it wears her out like she has ran a marathon and she gets tired and just stays in her chair all day. But lately she is getting worse. She used to always love doing the dishes because it made her arthritis in her hands feel better but now she is letting them go. She doesn't work and when I get home the house is a mess and she wants me to wait on her. She had to go to a doc appt today to get a rig, which she does yearly, to monitor her heart. She told me at lunch that she woke up so exhausted she had trouble even taking a shower. Then after that the conversation was muddled and she seemed upset. She said her brain felt all wrong and she couldn't think of words. She has done this before but this time she looked bad too.
I remember her heart doctor telling me that her condition can lead to stroke if not handled properly, that's why she has blood work and monitoring regularly, and takes so much medication. I wonder if she is forgetting to take it?

Today I filed an application online for three things from the State of New Jersey. I surprised myself! I wasn't expecting to do it but one thing led to another and I did it. I've been putting it off. Another thing that I'm feeling good about is my outside kitties. They aren't running away anymore and let me get quite close. Two of them were relaxing on my steps a little bit ago. I...

Go to her doctor appointment with her to tell the doctor what has
been going on and to ask questions? Does your mother live alone?
If there is no one to remind her to take her pills then look for a pill box that has alarm go off when you are supposed to take the pill.
I also no that she purposely doesn't take her meds sometimes because she thinks they make her sicker. Sometimes I wonder if she doesn't just have a mental health issue, as I have been told by other family that she has always been a little off. She won't let me go to doc appts much with her. I just notice lately she is much worse about not getting up or exercising, or even leaving the house. And she remembers things wrong and very irritable and mean to me when I try to ask her questions. I tell her all the time she needs a better regular doctor but she won't give me her insurance info to find a doc. I just want to give up and move out. Maybe that will motivate her to help herself.
