Though I lost my caregiving duties for my wife a couple of months ago because of needs I could no longer do, so had to place her in a nursing home, I still understand and know much of what you are going through. My caregiving was for 5 years, and to suddenly lose that "job" is very difficult. It took me 4-6 weeks to get a somewhat normal sleep pattern back, and I found myself with no motivation to do anything except what absolutly had to be done. I found after a few weeks that I had to force myself to get a life again, and I started by writing on a post-it-note in the evening exactly what I was going to do tomorrow.....Take a 2 mile walk, go to the library and get a book to read, visit (sibling, friend, neighbor, someone), phone someone you haven't talked to for awhile, vacuum the carpet, etc. Each evening for a couple of weeks I'd write my next days activities and then do them. (not counting my 2 hr visit each day with my wife). Perhaps you could do the same to help you get back to a somewhat normal life. Because of the grief of losing your grandmother, you should probably seek some grief counseling too to aid in getting through both your loss of your grandmother as well as the loss of your caregiving duties. thank you for your reply it does help a lot and i will have to start right my self a note for things i need to do the next day that sounds like something that going to help me start being motivated and as of right now i am seeing a social worker and i will be praying for you and your wife

I'm so sorry you lost your Grandma. I've been taking care of my mother almost 8 years. When she passes I will probably feel the same hopelessness that you do. I send you my love & prayers as you grieve.

I feel for you Kaysie, its never easy to loose those you love. I think Caring1 has some fantastic suggestions. Our roles as caregivers got more encompassing and time consuming as time passed I suspect, but when it stops it stops all at once so the transition is tough. Your not alone.

Kaysie, so sorry to hear about your loss. And, though I have never been there, I can imagine how lost you feel.

Try to remember the good times and I am sure your grandma really appreciated you there in her final months, years, etc. And remember you have made her passing easier for her.

I think we all would want someone like you with us when our time comes.

Your grandma was very blessed to have had you in her life. I'm sure she knows it. And I'm sure she is watching you now. I am also sure she will "call" you in spirit, if only in your dreams and heart.
