What a busy season we all went through. I can tell we here at the Caregivers Group are all exhausted.
I wanted to share my best memory of the 2013 Holiday/2014 New Year's season.
New Year's Day is my wedding anniversary (17 years for us) & every year for our celebratory dinner, we have boiled lobster with melted butter. My husband is such a chicken- he cannot have the whole boiled red lobster on his plate. The eyes freak him out. So, for the last bunch of years, I've been breaking the lobster apart for him.
This year, I didn't. I had him close his eyes & then put the plate in front of him. When he opened his eyes, he freaked & then laughed. I still had to break the lobster apart, but it sure was funny when his eyes were bugged out as far as the boiled lobsters eyes were!

What's your fondest or funniest memory?
My fondest memory for this 2013 Holiday Season comes from Christmas Eve. My granddaughters and family were gathered round the tree to open gifts. Hubby was in the other room sitting on his favorite couch. Since his stroke and brain damage he has a tendency to be unsocial (putting it mildly). As all the gifts for my G-daughters sat waiting to be opened my 6 yr old granddaughter Courtney said "Stop, I have to get my Grampa Hulk" ! She ran into the other room and helped him into his wheelchair, and proceeded to push him in front of the tree. All the while he's saying I don't need to be here. She smiled at him and said "Oh, Grampa it wouldn't be fun without you !"
You gotta love kids :-)
A few things that I'll remember with a smile,
Seeing our grandson, (unfortunately they live far from us) was true joy.
My Dad, asked for "a new toothbrush" for a present.
My son didn't ask for anything. He said, "You do enough for me all year long.)
In many ways, I feel blessed.
For several years, my 39 yr old daughter has just loved using my Canon Rebel SLR digital camera whenever her family comes to visit. She always asks to use it to take pictures of all of us as the day progresses, (even though she has her own digital pocket camera), and comments on how much she just loves the SLR.
In late November I purchased a higher quality Canon SLR digital camera package for myself that included extra lenses and equipment, and decided to give my used Canon camera to my daughter for Christmas rather than sell it. So I placed the camera, two telephoto lenses, a doubler lense, & two batteries/charger in a new camera bag, and wrapped it all up, along with a nice tripod (wrapped separately) for her to open. As she got the gift open, which was the camera bag containing the camera & lenses, she had a puzzled look on her face trying to figure out the case. When she finally opened the case, her eyes went large, her mouth opened wide in silence for a few seconds, before it was "OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG........DAD?" Then as she pulled out the camera, she started crying. Made my Christmas!!

She opened the card on the board to find tickets to the Boy Band One Direction at the Rose Bowl next September. Oh my the reaction was priceless. I am now the coolest mom ever. Making her smile makes a lot of the issues I go through weekly, being a caregiver worth it.
i wish id known that you wanted a son. i have a 25 yr old i would have paid you to take. hes just a real flat tire man..
