good grief i am glad Christmas is over. i tried for two weeks to focus on the "meaning of Christmas" and keep my head on positives.
then i woke up, got up to make coffee and my coffee pot wouldn't work!! i mean nothing is open on Christmas to buy a coffee pot.
my husband knocks himself out before noon and usually sleeps a couple of hours. i went to my dad's to eat with him and came home.
i waited all day for someone to call and at least say "Merry Christmas" to my husband. And if he didn't feel like answering the phone or was sleeping maybe leave a voice mail. he got one text from his daughter saying it.
this made me get so hurt and angry for him. i guess it was 'me hoping or expecting' something to be different at least for one day for him. everyone used to call him before he became disabled...when he could run around, do stuff with them or for them, give them money etc.
his fave cousin was in for Christmas and had been in for 4 days. nothing from him even. my husband has been so good to this cousin in the past. he even shared stuff he had of their grandfathers after grandpa died. this cousin had nothing.
i got sick of looking at Facebook and seeing this cousin post pictures of himself here and there. got sick of being mad and deleted him off my page. can't pick up a phone.....
i got off to myself and called everyone i knew who might be lonely, sick or going through a hard time and listened...

It was thoughtful of you to make those phone calls. You made a difference for many I'm sure. You took a bad thing and turned it around. I'm proud of you.
It does hurt when people/family you thought were friends back away when someone becomes disabled. Caregivers see it a lot. We've experienced it over the years too. Funny because when you should expect a "how ya doing?" or "can I be of help" from them they are no where to be seen, but when you really don't want company or have time to visit they can be a nuisance. We have one couple who continually ignored hubby's communications until he publicly made a polite comment on facebook about it. At least now they don't blatantly ignore him. I guess for some if you no longer serve a useful purpose to them you don't exist.
