Cute tiger. You do not mention your age or baggage and yes it does matter. If you have 18 kids and are 72 then can have an effect. You do not mention other talents such as driving licence, outgoing personality etc. If no kids, old dad to look after etc, this means you can move around and pursue ends in Uruguay or wherever.

You must think laterally and widely. Look up Escape from America or just escape. Seize the day and stop thinking of long term planning as John Maynard Keynes said in the long run you are dead.

You rez may scream PA Secretary but you are so much more and forget the $10 and think of life fulfillment and joy of life. You have so much fun, excitement, danger, fun ahead.

Jobs are jobs. Few find fulfillment in them. Why? They're meant to provide food on your table and a roof over your head. They're not meant to make you happy. Work to live, not live to work. So look around you and find something that you can afford just because you're working. Have you dreamed of helping someone through volunteering? Are you interested in writing, art, etc? Take courses in this. Would you enjoy traveling to some remote area and helping out? Save for this and do it. Would you like to go skydiving? Save your money and do it.

Career counselors will tell you differently. Why? They're operating under an outdated standard where jobs were plentiful. And they're trying to keep a roof over their head. Many have lost their jobs, so this is their second career. Back in the good old days you could major in art history and still get a job when you graduate. Not so anymore. I've heard of those with graduate degrees unable to find employment or ending up somewhere making ten dollars an hour. I read an article recently that said jobs in the middle level, i.e, secretary, sales, accounting, are disappearing due to technology improvements. They're becoming extinct like the pony express. That's why people are graduating and not finding work. Looking for fulfillment makes it almost impossible.

i dont get why ur paying for career counselors. i have a career counselor and its free i go to a workforce connection, gov agency, for job help and everything is free. i took the same assessments mine were artistic forgot the other ones.

my career counselor at this workforce connection i am at is telling me things that i need to do in this depression not something thats outdated. the 1st workforce i went to last year my CC was telling me crap to do that was out dated and the info they taught was bad.

every job i have looked at is not fulfilling as truhal said a way to put food in ur tummy and a roof over ur head where's the fulfillment and excitement in that?! nobody people are not happy in the fucked up jobs they r at by not being happy you are hurting ur own health too.

my CC told me i need to find entry level 0-3 years of experience but every entry level i find wants experience and isnt willing to train at all, so what r u suppose to do? sad, how nobody has the answers for that!! i want a gov job for the benefits and security well somewhat secure but i see nothing entry level....

I'm about to be 49, currently unemployed and over education with student loans to boot. I'm definitely a grown up and for me, I'm looking for a job that will pay the bills and allow me to "find myself" on the weekends.

It seems that CC try to pigionhole people (that is their job) but irregardless of what your Myers-Briggs profile comes out to be (INTJ) you may not be able to obtain a job in that field. I truly wish you well.

It does get depressing after a while. That's not unusual....the longer you're out of the corporate scene...the tougher it is. I've been out for almost 3 yrs. If it wasn't for the income that I'm generating from my home business, not sure how I would make it at this point.

i saw career counselors which didnt help at all. i took all kinds of personality tests and career tests like u said its like reading twisted horoscopes.

Have you ever thought about sitting down to figure out your passion and perhaps see if there's a way to make money from it. Just a thought, I understand your frustration....I felt the same way....however, I found a way to gain my confidence back by earning extra income from a part-time business. Best of luck to you

Yikes! I'm in the same boat, though perhaps a little better off than some because I am working. I'm 50 with an outdated graduate degree in an area I'm not even sure I still like. I've been in the same type of job for over 20 years (started it with the idea of getting through school but never got out) and it's low-paying, not fulfilling at all, isolating (working from home), and making me kind of brain dead. I definitely would need to get some training to get into an office setting and I really don't want to be there anyway. Also would have to go back to school to update skills in the field I have my graduate degree in, which would be expensive and there's no certainty it would lead to a job (a ton of younger folk in my area do the same thing). And that one isn't well-paying either.

My youngest kid is 15 and there's no reason I can't work away from home except there aren't any jobs and I haven't a clue what I want to do/could do.

I see that it's been a long time since the first post. I wonder what s/he's doing now.
