Career Changes Support Group
This community is dedicated to the difficult challenges of transitioning from one career or job to a new one. Especially as we grow older, it can be very difficult to acquire the skills and relationships and take the financial risk to make the switch.
Because I essentailly have been unemployed the last two years I fibbed on my resume that I was in my last job 2 years instead of it actually being only 1 year. I was offered a contracting job and the agreement they wanted me to sign stated specifically that if I wasn't totally honest on my resume and any information within it by signing the agreement I give them the right to any monuntary damages that would result from that mis-information.
I can't sign the agreement. I would essentially be giving them the right to sue me. If i didn't lie on my resume I would have never been considered for the job at all. What the hell am I supposed to do? I'm in a destitute situation with no income and bills piling up. Soon I will be homeless and living out of my car. I got past the phone interview and the 3 people panel in-person interview. They queried me on technical quesitons and I passed flying colors. That should be enough for them. Why do they need to have me sign a restrictive contact that basically covers their ass completely and puts mine in a sling?
Any of you can say you shouldn't have lied but that would be saying essentially that I should be willing to die for good principles and doing the right thing. Which is where I would be if I stuck to principles.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). When it comes down to it - your lie was not about your skils or anything that will affect your work performance or ability. It was about the term of employment. It's a technicality - but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Besides - you're about to be homeless right - what are they gonna sue you for? Your blood??
If it does come up... should not be a big deal. Tell them it was a type-o or something. Maybe you did not do your resume yourself. Perhaps you paid a resume service to do it. Employers know that happens all the time.
