Breastfeeding Support Group
While breastfeeding is recommended by many doctors, it is not as simple as it seems. This is a community dedicated to parents who are choosing to breastfeed, providing a safe place to discuss everything from pumping, to questions of whether baby is getting enough, weaning, breast care, scheduling, supply, and more.
You know what is best for you and your baby. Don't let anyone push you into doing what you don't want.
I always said that my goal was 6 months, but I thought I would ebf for that time. I didn't think I'd go back to work... and although I've made it tover 6 months, she's been getting supplimented since 4 months...so I don't feel like I really met my goal.
There's a part of me that finds it super inconvienient....but then there's a part of me that really likes the bonding. But the bonding is getting taken away because she gets frustrated when she's hungry and there isn't much coming out...
I guess getting 1 bottle day of bm is something.... I don't know.
I would suggest you take fenugreek and blessed thistle together.
Also, I wonder if you have recently introduced solids, if that is not the reason your supply may have dropped somewhat. I noticed every time I introduced solids (4 babies) that my supply would seem to dip. That busty feeling I had, of engorgement or something, seemed to go away with time.
Remember, how much you pump is not an indication of how much milk you may really have. A baby is ALWAYS much more efficient than a pump!
IN addition to letting him nurse as much as possible on week-ends and when you are with him, I would try switch nursing. Switch sides several times during a nurse. It helps stimulate your supply.
IMO, he is passed the age where you need to give formula. As long as you bf on demand, you can substitute some milk products if yu feel the need to do so while you are separated. Ex: cottage cheese; yogurt; ice cream; cheese, fresh cheese, etc.
Be sure to use a slo flo nipple for any bottles, and remember to bf as much as you can. If you can bed share, so much the better. Your baby will learn to nurse when you are next to him.
Good luck, and remember, always, some bf is def. better than stopping altogether!
