While breastfeeding is recommended by many doctors, it is not as simple as it seems. This is a community dedicated to parents who are choosing to breastfeed, providing a safe place to discuss everything from pumping, to questions of whether baby is getting enough, weaning, breast care, scheduling, supply, and more.
Someone posted this question on a pregnancy board and I never really thought about it, so now I'm concerned.
I have very irregular cycles (PCOS) and am not sure if I ovulate off of meds. Will then effect breastfeeding?
Has anyone gone through IF with irregular cycles and still been able to BF?

I had irregular cycles and battled IF for a long time. I've been bf my son for 8 mos now but I definitely had major supply issues to start. I read a ton of different books before my son was born, made myself known to the LCs at the hospital before he was born, really used them when I was in the hospital and had one ready for when I got home so I would have support and tools. It can be done. I didn't have PCOS so I don't know how that would affect anything.

PCOS can do one of two things: you could end up with low supply OR over supply. Fortunately for me I had over supply. It has its own problems tho. My twin girls are now 5 months and have been EBF. I have I believe severe PCOS (just about every symptom) and have been successful. Just make sure to push to see a LC as soon after birth as possible!

This reminds me - my friend had very severe PCOS and never had a period without meds. She had twins (naturally) and she bf them both exclusively without any problems.

i have pcos and endo. we were on fertility meds for almost a year before conceiving. weve had no problems whatsoever.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
