Hey All,
I had surgery on the 8th, a lumpectomy. They also tested 2 lymph nodes.
They called today with the pathology report. The lymph nodes were benign! Thank God! However, they said the DCIS was more extensive than what they thought. There were also 2 small areas of infiltration (approx. 0.5mm each) They also found LCIS. They said it meant I was at a slightly elevated risk for bc in the other breast as well because of the LCIS,
The nurse told me I would need to come in and talk with the surgeon on Monday. She says I'll need more surgery and we would talk about it then. I'm grateful there is no invasion in the nodes but I'm not sure what more surgery means of course. Personally I think I would want to have a dble mastectomy and be done with it! I don't want to wonder when it'll reoccur some time down the road!
Am I being too dramatic? Does anyone have an opinion on this?

i'm very glad I did. they found quite a surprise when they got into that breast. I actually had the cancer in my skin layers. had to go back and get more tissue and skin because no clear margins (cancer free area all around removed tissue)
surgeon said skin was "crunchy" my daughter was with me so i know i heard correctly.
then when they took the "healthy" left breast there was something there though benign.
I say to each his/her own.
I made the best decision for me and I don't regret it.
had i listened to what others thought i should do i would not be at peace right now.
i say pray look into what outcome would make you happy (realistic) and talk it over with your cancer team.

Thanks for your reply! The more I think about it, the more I want as much done as possible for my peace of mind. I just feel uneasy and have ever since the biopsy before I was diagnosed.
The surgeon's nurse already called to tell me about the pathology report and set up an appointment to talk with the surgeon for this coming Monday. This morning the surgeon left me a message to call him at my convenience and that he wants to discuss the pathology report and have me come to the office. I just get anxious to hear from him too. I hope he was just planning to talk to me personally and that he had no more surprises that the nurse didn't already say! I've just been blindsided so many times in the past few years I don't want anymore surprises!

LCiS is when it is in the lobules in situ. It is very slow moving but can indicate a heightened risk for getting bc in both breasts.

I was 31 when I had my 1st surgery and chemo for b.c.
I had two mastectomies. The first at the initial blow, the second side after a recurrance. PLEASE think about a double mastectomy. If it helps you avoid chemo and radiation again, do it. I also tested positive for the BRAC #1 gene. Thus, I had a hysterectomy and oopherectomy. You might want to get tested. Remember, this is just a season in your life. Think ahead so you can get ahead of this battle. I will be praying for good results for you. I just wanted to let you know there is hope, and if you want someone to cry, vent, etc... I'm here for you.
I am scheduled for a dbl mastectomy w/reconstruction on Monday!
I can't wait to rid myself of this threat!! They supposedly removed the really threatening stuff (2 infiltrating tumors) but I still can't trust it will be ok. Even the surgeon suggested the dbl mastectomy. I most likely wont need any treatment after that. And I was tested for BRAC1 and 2 and it came back negative. I don't blame you for getting everything removed. I think that is very smart! Is an oopherectomy removal of the ovaries?
