I am 30 yo and for the past couple years I've noticed pain in my right breast more so recently, I really notice it when I work out. My breast' are very lumpy and the right side of my rib by my breast is extremely tender. I've had a few breast exams over the past couple years but I just have this nagging feeling that something is not right. I feel small hard round lumps (some smaller then a pea) all my doctors have reassured me that it's normal. I feel like I am being dismissed because of my age but my best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer at 36 and I am always reading stories of how this disease also affects young women. I am going to go for 1 more doctors exam since its been a few years the pain seems to be worst. Should I insist on having an ultrasound or mammogram done? It would help put my mind at ease, I am not a hypochondriac, just feel like something is not right.
If I were you I'd insist on a Diagnostic Mammogram. It differs from a regular mammogram in that they have the equipment and skill to perform several tests in one place and a radiologist is there to read your films/scans and tell you if they see a problem.
Just because you're young doesn't mean you can't have breast cancer as you know.

For months I saw different doctors nobody paid attention,till I read Dear Abby and was a letter from a lady terminal with breast cancer ,that had my symptoms, and exams were negative.
I went back to an specialist and showed her the cut off of the letter, I had an excisional biopsy,found breast cancer,I wanted a mastectomy and during this surgery found a second invasive and different.
I am a very long term survivor,that after my cancer went back to college to work in the medical field.
One has to be many times pushy with doctors.
You can ask for an MRI of the breast,Ultrasound.
Diagnostic mammogram as it was mention will be done only after a regular mamogram.
I was also young when diagnosed ,reason why I insisted on mamogram that in my case was negative I repeat.
Hope is just a false alarm.
