Has any one had experience with getting their doctor to agree to off protocol treatment try of breast cancer. My wife has triple n Ed gative breast cancer and is contemplating getting treatment with a copper depletion therapy called tetrathiomolybdate.
We found out about it through a news letter. It was about research that was reported recently at the 2015 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, held May 29 to June 2 in Chicago (abstract 11008) .The result that caught our attention was The progression free survival (PFS) for all 75 pts from the start of TM treatment was 81% including a PFS of 94% for all stage 2/3 pts with TNBC at median f/u of 5.6 yrs.
We approached her oncologist and was told that he could not recommend the therapy without phase three trial results.
The risk of doing nothing seems greater than the risk of using the medication based on the phase 2 Trial results.
Has anyone had success in getting new treatment outside of a protocol?

Breast cancer do not have a protocol,one can have chemo before or after treatment,different types of chemo,how is given ,surgery.
What they are talking about is the medication given as part of a third phase study.
I worked with patients in Sarcoma that volunteer to be on phase 3 because there was no more treatments left for them,it worked.
It was the first time used on soft tissue sarcomas,also out of protocol is when a drug is not aproved for am specific cancer but works in some patients.

To get a phase 3 is a good idea,but is better done in a mayor Cancer Center specially where it is being given.
Well experienced breast oncologist like MD Anderson,UCLA,,NY.cancer centers.
They gather info from medical studies and make recommendation based on that. I really like that they don't give one fits all answer but each needs to make his own decision. They say don't limit to one treatment or supplement, but use all you think might benefit. And the rainbow diet sounds so good!
