the safest place I HAVE felt in the last few years has been in my car when roadracing which is probably when I was LEAST safe, but I felt impervious, impenetrable, invincible.

But I have this safe place in my mind I had to develop for EMDR therapy.

Its in Spain, a small doorway with no markings, nondescript. A retired Navy Seal sits on the front step, barefoot in jeans and a t-shirt, drinking a cerveza. Through the door at the top of the landing is a closet. Go to the back of the closet, and a hidden doorway leads to a wide open study, with mahogany panelling, wine red leather chairs, a fireplace, a big globe on a stand, and a desk with very expensive rag cotton paper, fountain pens, a bankers lamp. A wise older scholar sits there, writing. He's always glad to see me. Nobody ever knows I'm there.
