Last friday, I received a letter from the court that my husband wants an extension for the documents he needs to submit in order to start the proceeding. He was the one who filed for a quick divorce and blindsided me. I responded quickly and submitted all the documents needed on time. I am also not contacting him as he requested. I deactivated my facebook so that he has no information about me. Why is he delaying the divorce? Im already moving on. I gave in to all his conditions in the divorce. I dont have a lawyer and he has one so it should be easier for him to submit everything on time.

Yes - please get a lawyer. Even if it is just to double check the documents to make sure there is no funny business.

One reason is that he may want to see what you are submitting first before he submits his documents. It's like a card game, where both sides show their cards. So you complied and showed your cards so he knows what you have and now he can decide what to show of the documents that he has. Tactics.

It's good to have a lawyer look everything over for you, just to be on the safe side.
