Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
first, get organized. create a system to get tasks done. write them down daily and prioritize them. eat well, sleep regularly, and try to remain as calm as possible. your emotions are on overload and the calmer they are, the more energy that you will have and the clearer that you will be able to think.
second, stay connected with family and friends. don't be too isolated. get them to help if you are lucky enough to have any that will actually help with things. i know that most will not be there when we really need them.
third, set up free counseling. tell your counselor that you need help imagining a good future. tell them that you need hope and lots of it to counter your tendency of depression.
i downsized from a house to an apartment too after my breakup. it was painful but life is easier in an apartment. i was broke too but we work with what we have. you can do this.
take this all one step at a time. you are tearing down an old life and building a new one. your new one can be a really good one if you put it on a firm, practical foundation.
lastly, i'm sorry to hear that you have to give your dog away. maybe you can visit it regularly. that would help you both adjust to all of this.
i hope that this helps a little. lots of people here will have many more ideas for you. hang in there. we will get you through this.
Please do not despair--I know things look pretty bleak right now, but there is a good life after divorce and many of us are living it and finding love, laughter, and peace in this new life. You can too.
Faithful777 has given you some excellent advice. I will add that in order to fill the void left by giving away your beloved pet, try volunteering at an animal shelter. It's a great way to use your talents, they can use the help, and the good feeling you will get back will go a long way in helping YOU feel better about yourself and your situation.
Stick with your counselor and talk to your doc about your meds. Constant communication will help get you where you need to be emotionally.
And don't fear going back to work. During my separation and divorce, my job was the only stable thing going on in my life--it sustained me through some really dark days. Being able to go somewhere and for 8 hours forget about separation, divorce, attorneys, money, etc. was a welcome reprieve. It was also a place where I had lots of love and acceptance and support. Try to see your job that way as well and much of the fear will disappear.
Sending you loads of healing hugs! You are stronger than you realize.
Others on here say it can be done. We will get through these things.
