Ever since my wife went mentl on me and in the process I got arressted, which was last friday, I haven't talked or seen her. We have been communicating by text about the kids only.

Next week, is my sons 10th birthday. She invited me to go with them for his birthday dinner. I asked the kids what they want. The 16 year old says, come, you might as well get used to it. The 14 year, thinks its going to be awkward, and my soon to be 10 really wants me to go.

I want to go, I have never missed any of their birthdays.I just don't know which STBX will show up, the evil witch or the good witrch.

I asked my freinds, and half says go the other says don't go.

My EX and I do separate things for each kids birthday. It's better that way. Continue with the no contact except the about the kids.

my ex and I have always celebrated separately. Our decree, alternates holidays and birthdays. For example, my oldest daughter's birthday is this upcoming Monday, my ex gets her this year, but I will celebrate with her birthday next Wednesday (when I'd have the kids next). Last year I got her for her birthday.

I think my kids actually prefer it this way, because it's like they have two birthdays. If you guys got along, it could work, but doesn't sound like that is the case with you guys.

After last Friday don't you think it would be better to have separate birthday parties. You can do something with your child before or after his birthdate. Two of them are old enough to soon do things on their own. The ten year old would really get a kick out of two birthday celebrations. More presents and more cake. You two need to decide by text who is going to have the more formal party if their friends are going to be invited.

You say wife and not stbx so it might be wise to not end up in jail again. That would really look bad in court.

I would, normally, have a different answer, but after your incident/assault/arrest last week, I probably would steer clear of being around her.

My ex and I do stuff together, like birthdays, for our son...but, honestly? We've also never gotten violent with each other. That would change the parameters.

If the adults can't act grown, then I say, be separate.

I'd say do it separate. Your kids want you to go but its going to be incredibly uncomfortable after what happened. Continue having no contact at least for now. Maybe the next birthday/holiday can be different.
