Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Since there is no child I will take the box out on Valentines day (5 days before D-Day) and put the box into my truck, take a nice long drive out into the desert. Line up all the crap from my wedding. walk back about 60 yards, take my Glock out of my shoulder holster and aim and fire.
Once I empty my clip, I will then gather up all the destroyed items, put them back in the box and put back into the truck and drive home and dig a hole and bury my marriage.
As much as I would love to burn this bridge.
All my pictures from the marriage, I will keep. My kids still like to look through them, even though it's very painful for me. But it's still their life, so they stay.
I think it gets less painful to look at the pictures (I know it has gotten less painful for me) so in 10 years, you might like to have them. Just for your kids sake.
When the time comes, simply pass it to your kids. They deserve to have that history for themselves as they are a part of it.
Plus like mel says, my kids still like looking at them, they shared our life together too and I could never throw those memories away on them.
As for the pics, I'm keeping them as well. My family is all over those pics and they are a part of who I am today (good, bad and ugly...kind of like battle scars). My father is now deceased and my mother is unwell....Again, I will not allow his decision to sully the memories that I shared with those precious people.
If you are unsure, I suggest that you pack em' up and store them somewhere until you are in a better place to decide what to do with them.
Rings - ready to sell
Photos - trash
Certificate - safely stored for legal purposes
I would not pass anything on to my children. I would not want them to begin their new lives with someone with something tarnished.
I don't need anything to prove I was married, I got the fucking scars.
Hardest of all...Photos....I kept them all, took down any with him in them around the house and stored them in the basement (maybe I want those to flood, too)... Photo albums have our babies and him in them and i won't destroy those due to respect for the kids and they are all the memories i have of raising children. I don't want to pick him out of all of those, because i might feel ok about it all someday.
Good luck with these tough decisions, LLMT.
