I was laid off right before CHristmas.it sucks...It really brought on a serious depression in me....It really is hard.

I was just laid off from the state of Washington and it absolutely sucks. They don't want to give me unemployment benefits because I am in school full-time (online) and they are questioning whether I am "physically able to work everyday". I've been laid off for six weeks and not one single payment or paycheck.

I think that the best thing to do is follow the saying, "Everybody is one paycheck away from being homeless". It's so true. Save while you can, put money away so that in case of a lay off, there's money there to live on. More difficult when you have children and live on a budget to where you cannot save a ton of money every month.

It's very sad that the economy is so scary right now. Stay in the job you have, even though you may hate it because you may not have a job tomorrow!

I don't know..but they just did a round of layoffs here at my job today. UGH!

The first thing I'll do is cry...after that I'll have to pull it together and move foward, that's all you can do.

That's what savings are for. It is wise to have at least 6 months worth of living expenses in savings or something liquid for times like this. Ever since I witnessed my first round of "Corporate Rightsizing" I made sure I had something tucked away. The cutbacks usually are a matter of convenience as opposed to the quality of the employee.

Heave... I've lost my job twice in the past 12 months because of downsizing. Then unemployment was denied after almost 12 weeks) because I teach 3 hours a week in the winter.

200 resumes and 14 weeks later I finally found a job... 80 miles away from where I live.


What do you do? Whatever you can... cut expenses, (we dont have cable tv, a land line, keep the lights off, the heat low, go out to eat, etc.) I am fortunate that I have skills that permitted me to consult until I found work. But still I'm so far behind on debt that I may never recover completely.

well, savings is good..but being a single mom of 3 kids, its hard to save anything. Its not easy to put things aside for a rainy day when you have nothing left to save....

I will let you guys in on something. The economy is so bad they are not even hiring police officers right now. It is really bad. Just think, they preach homeland security but they are not filling open positions and, worse yet, are laying off in some departments!

Guys, we are in deep crap. The economy is getting worse and I don't see an end in store.

yeah, its enough to end up in a depression support group or something....

These are scary times.

Heave, that just shows how powerless we are, no safety net, at the mercy of government and banks. So many frauds, so many scandals. I think the people need to stand up for themselves, not just cover up, held responsible those who are in charge of maneuvering this. Why the goverment can spend so much money on crap and not to help those in need, who paid fair taxes and make the body of a country?

Just happened to my daughter's husband. They had to go to Welfare to get Section 8 to pay for their rent and got food stamps. They have 5 kids so it's tough. I go over and make sure they have enough food and stuff.

This economy totally sucks, it ain't bottomed out yet, that is what scares me.

I mean I'm 54, if I would lose my job I might as well just croak. It would be the end.
