This is good that you can recognize that you are no where near ready to date as your still not over your relationship. I'm not sure why your friend would suggest creating an online dating profile knowing you aren't ready. Yes, it could boost your confidence when someone shows interest, but there is no point if your not ready. Most people on dating sites want to date, to meet someone, they aren't necessarily looking for friends. My suggestion would be to join a club, take up some new hobbies, stuff like that. Those are great ways to make friends and take some of that loneliness away. It will give you something to focus on instead of dwelling on being alone and thinking of him. Don't waste your thoughts on him, think of ways you can be happier and healthier without him.....once you do that, days will go by, then months, and soon he won't consume your thoughts.

When you mention that you imagine if your ex saw it--that speaks loudly. A dating profile should not be about your ex and he should not be any consideration in this, so it would probably make sense to give yourself more time to get past him.

It's not odd, you still think of him and part of you wonders if he still thinks of you and wonder just what would he think if he saw you had a dating profile. Mine is already married and the other day his friend was at my place to post a van for sale and his friend said to me "hey, he can't say anything about what you do or who you do it with or for anymore". He would be furious if he knew I was even talking to any of the guys never mind helping them with something on the computer. I apparently can have any man I want so long as it's not anyone he knows!

Online dating seems whacky, however if you find someone who was real honest on their profile... it might be fun to chat w/them.

What I do know though... is what your friend is saying. My self image and self confidence was damaged with the rejection of my chosen partner. Rejection is no joke, it hits and hurts most of us. I have been slowly crawling out of my cave or shell in past weeks and talking to people. I'm even talking to other males more just to know how comfortable I am with myself... but yes the part that is helping with my self image is infact other women.

Before someone hits me with a slimy fish, I'm not talking romantic convos or anything of the sort. Just... "Hi" "How's it going" etc. Anti-introvert Anti-hopelessly-devoted-to-her kind of stuff.

So many people talk about that site where you get together with groups of people for activities only, that maybe that would be a better idea and a way of gaining new friends. Can't remember the name right now.

Yeah... MeetUp.com I've went to one group meeting for hiking, it was ok. Had to force some conversation but it was good for me.
