uncoupling

If you get to the "uncoupling" stage is the relationship them infact over? even if you still live in the same house.

I suppose the relationship would be over if you've found your identity as a single person. However, that would be REALLY difficult if your spouse still lives in the house with you. I suppose you would have a roommate-like relationship and I don't know many people that can truly separate themselves without the physical separation.

That is a great word! We're uncoupling sounds better than divorcing! LOL

If you aren't a couple, then you're a single. You can be two individuals in a couple...But from the way you've phrased it, I'd say it's a deal breaker- and I wouldn't recommend living under the same roof. Way too painful

I didn't call it "uncoupling," but we did agree that we were no longer committed to each other as a couple. So that meant to each of us that our marriage was over, with just the legal parts left. This left both of us with the freedom of starting life anew as a single person. So I think if you have the discussion with your STBX that you are "uncoupling," then it is over. Tough doing it in the same house, but I guess that's when it's more like a roommate...without privileges!

I'm in that exact stage right now. I feel like I just want distance between us because I don't know what is going to happen with us but if we do get divorced I want to be ready this time. It is hard for him though because he can totally sense it and I think it's funny that he's trying to come around now..
