We just had our third counseling session. This is the second time that the counselor has really pressed us about whether we truly want to continue with counseling. In his experience, couples in our situation usually don't stay together.

This counselor came with high recommendations from other clients. I don't think he is a poor counselor. But it surprises me that he would talk this way. Have other people heard this type of talk at the beginning of marriage counseling?

consider finding a new counselor. if both of you are going then of corse you want to go. i have gone to moer then one therapist during my 13 year marriage, and their job is to help you understand each other and to help the two of you figure out what you want from each other. if a therapist makes you uncomfortable, find a new one. even if hes good, he might not be the right one for you.

because when he probably figures by some of the things u and the so have been saying u guys pretty much made up ur minds ur just going through the motions with him and spending a shit load of money in the process

I agree with Redphish....keep looking. I have not had good results with counseling but I believe that it can work. I used to think that faith based counseling was the best idea, but my most recent experience has turned my thinking around on that subject...good luck!

I don't think that I would want to go to a counselor that tells me that couples in certain situations don't tend to stay together. It seems like the counselor isn't trying to do what you are paying him to do....save your marriage. Time for a new counselor.

That counselor doesn't sound that hot to me.....what a tool.

I believe the counselor doesn't want us to waste the time and money. Based on what he has seen already, he believes that there isn't much chance of saving the marriage. Honestly, I'm not sure that he is wrong. I'm just surprised that a counselor would say it.

Get one on your side, darn, if separated sessions are needed fine, just not that person.

Its exactly how our counselor behaved,
she had done some damage. yeah mine and my x relation was hopless.
But as you I was surprise how much she was pushing us to admit that we wanted to split up.

then her job was done no marriage counseling needed.....
