Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
If you weren't happy with your reaction or you would like a different reaction, the first step is to read my first paragraph again. Then, work on the realization that there are other valid, logical reactions to situations like that and it is ultimately your choice on how to react when presented with that situation in the future.
If you want your reaction to change, plan out some other ways that you can react and still be true to yourself.

were you ever treated for PTSD?
this is one very toxic world that's for sure. personally, i am glad that i have such a strong sense of intuition. you should be glad for the gift too, namaste. :)
I'm a mess right now.
Yes, I've been treated. Or so I thought. I feel like I've just unraveled back to square one.
Know what really getting me right now? 11 years ago..to this very day...I was bailing my ex out of jail after in a horrible alcohol induced state of leaving our home where things got out of control...he stormed off. I was awakened by the phone at 2 am to a police officer as,ing if I could come and bail him out . He was arrested for disorderly conduct and then proceeded to physically assault both the female and male officer when they came to pick him up. His physical assault on them resulted in him being maced and beaten with a billy club.
It's a memory I could do without. And one I thought left me..in addition to all of his other incidents.
The only thing I saw tonight...was him...and flashbacks.
Unglued.
Youre not back at square one, you just found yourself in a moment you werent prepared for. If you can, and you think its a good idea you might want to go back to the therapist who treated your PTSD previously, for a "check up".
My sense though is, especially since you left soi quickly, tomorrow or the day after you'll feel better anyway.
It sure would be nice to not have to experience that again if there ever is a next time around some drunk.
you got the living-the-gentle-life down, it seems
you just gotta tweak the from-out-of-nowhere stuff a bit
I know just how you feel. I was triggered by something this evening, too, and had the most stressful time dealing with those feelings of anxiety and dread, and yes, even a bit of panic. But I talked to my sister and she reminded me that I am okay and will get through this. You will, too.
Don't beat yourself up for your reaction. Tell yourself that you are safe now and be gentle to yourself and allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling.
(((NAMASTE)))
maybe a canoeing club or some other nature loving group would be good for you. personally, i have little use for bars, clubs, and anything that reeks of the las vegas side of life.
Sorry--I don't have any wise words, like everyone else did... all I can offer is a hug.
(((((((((Namaste)))))))))
hugfest !
haha
I will find myself wondering "Why the HELL does it bother me this much? Why do I care?" But...it is a part of the bigger picture.
Allow yourself to work through it...you are strong and amazing...and you will come out on top because you are a fighter, Namaste. Hugs!
After I was able to get out of the situation a few days later I spent time reflected on what exactly caused the "flashback" and why exactly it bothered me. It wasn't an easy few days but I was able to work through it.
I hate the fact that these supposedly IMPORTANT people in our life have caused us to have our moments of breakdown. You did the right thing and got out of the situation. It doesn't mean you are a lesser person because you were triggered. It should great insight and strength to recongize it and get out of there!
