I'm sitting here today and can't help but wonder if others really ever truly know how they have impacted or touched others lives.
A good friend of mine is lying in the hospital after suffering a major heart attack last Sunday. He is like a father to me and has been a great blessing, teacher and guide in my life. While we have only known each other for about a year and a half, he has had had such a positive and profound impact .....especially in regards to my healing. I wouldn't and couldn't be at the place i am, had we not have crossed paths.
Through out talks and work together, Im sure he probably knows what a positive influence and guide he has been, but Im not sure that he knows to what depth.
With that said...I have a regret today...and that is that I havent told him how honored i am to have him as a guide and a friend. He is still in a coma like state..and while I am telling him at a soul level, I need to tell him face to face. I can only hope that i have the chance.
I suppose this is a lesson in how fragile life is. And maybe how we affect others without knowing.
Anyone else have this experience?
Just a thought for today, with gratitude.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

life is fragile. indeed. and its amazing how strong and resilent we are with it being as fragile as it is.
yes. i have had that experience. and in relation to that, i remember discussing with a good friend at least 10 years back about how we never know how we are impacting others with our actions - sometimes we hear about it and sometimes we dont. my close friends make "fun" of me because i over thank and over appreciate everything - i dont want anyone to not know what they have done for me. i totally get what you are saying with that.
i think it is lovely being able to tell him on a soul level - somehow, it will reach him deeper than maybe the face to face. so after you tell him in the state he is in now and then are able to tell him face to face, it will really stick with him.
all the best. xoxo
i doubt if any of us have any idea of how our words of encouragement are received in another's heart. i know that over the years, i have received tons of support.
it's like during our generations, we are each carrying our small baton of civilization. they were handed to us and we will hand them off to the next generation as we leave.
Namaste, sometimes a person in a coma can hear people speaking to them on a more subtle level. Maybe you could visit him and express your thoughts to him in person.
He must be quite a man. Somehow, when the best people leave, we who remain would do well to try to stand in their shoes. If not us, who will?
The 2 most influential men in my life are away from me right now, unreachable, and it feels kind of empty. John, in his hospital bed in his unconscious state, and my bf is in Afghanistan. :(
He sounds very special. Big hugs! :)
I know what you mean about telling people what they mean to you or how they have touched your life. I am very aware of our human frailty and reminded of this often through the loss of my brother at a young age (I never had the chance to say goodbye or what he meant to me). I am in touch with my mortality by working at the funeral home for many years.
I always tell family and friends how much I love them and what they have brought to my life. I always tell ppl when they have done a good job or how much I appreciate them....and it makes me feel good too :)
Good post!
