Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
When you say obsessing are you thinking about the events over and over in a loop? Identifying your faults? I used to do that all the time. The interesting thing was, it would be the same things over and over (but from a slightly different angle as if it wasn't the same thing, lol). Once I realized I was doing it I strived to boil down the thoughts to the very basic statements that were underneath them.
Once you get to the bottom statements, the loops or obsessing seems to disappear.
I had to acknowledge I was powerless over those thoughts and forgive myself for my decisions or my actions that contributed. One great thing about forgiveness is it is a way to take ownership of our actions but not let them keep us prisoner.
Now days I don't even go into the loops, I just say, "There is nothing I can do about that." Then I usually repeat something like, "I love her, but this is her decision, I care for her life, God loves me, I must be strong." Although my situation is different than yours, maybe it can be helpful.
Good luck.
The party who doesn't want the break up tends to be too involved while the other person is just chilling - I mean, why? Is it really worth you putting your joy on hold?
