If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it might not be a duck, but it sure isn't going to be good marriage material......
And LiannaMe, that stuff used to trigger me like CRAZY in my son. But there's a big difference between acting immature and selfish as a child (when it's developmentally NORMAL) and acting like that as an adult. My saving grace has been my daughter....who's got all of the social skills in the world, and can turn them on and off on a dime. Your work may be cut out a little harder for you with an ADHD child, but when they Get It....they'll be far more empathetic than a "normal" child ever will be.
At least that's what I'm finding out with my son. He's 11 now, and growing up so fast.
Give those kids Extra hugs for me. It isn't easy wanting to be in the fast lane, when everyone else is moving so slow. Give them lots and lots of emotional support (even when they seem like utter terrors), and it will pay off down the line.
When my son was losing it in Kindergarten, and got suspended from school from all of his hitting, kicking, and spitting; I took him to a counselor (that he HATED). Her first words to me were that we were punishing him too much.
It annoyed the heck out of almost everyone that saw me cut back (I was pretty much told to beat him), but now he's graduating from 5th grade, hasn't been to the principal's even once this year, and has gotten many compliments on his behavior and responsibility.
(Next year, his sister has to make it to the bus stop alone.... Sigh. We'll see how that goes. He's been getting her there since he was in 3rd grade...)
I gave him the only label that he has EARNED.

BUT...the good news is, you can still be beautifully neurotic like the rest of us !
