I am very sorry this happened and can only imagine how devastated you are but, as you explained it, there's kind of an underlying point I wish to mention

He has been your boyfriend for 7 years and he hasn't asked you to marry him? This sounds like he has an underlying problem with commitment A man his age shouldn't have these type issues. I don't know what country he is from but, there again, he sacrificed you for lack of commitment when confronted with an alternative given by his parents. Again, I am sorry this happened but, would he ever married you? This is indeed a sad situation for you.

Wow sorry to hear this. What is it that the family doesn't like? Has he tried talking to them? I am sorry your feeling so bad. But reality is depending on culture some won't be with someone if family doesn't approve. Something worth communicating about for sure.

It may be really hard to see right now ( because you are hurting ) but... you may have actually dodged a bullet with this guy. If its a cultural thing (that's almost impossible to change.) Is there a chance that he is blaming his parents now but he never intended to get married in the first place? The sooner you know the truth the better. If family is not speaking to him because the two of you are living together and they "don't approve" you may have a 50 + year old man here that can't do anything without the approval of his parents. They make a decision to cut off communication with their son because he is involved with you? That is so drastic. So unkind-- and sad. I have been married 30 years and I can tell you YES you marry the family too - as the saying goes. If they are *already* over bearing and if he doesn't have a backbone to stand up for himself and be the intermediary between you and his parents ( because keeping peace would be his responsibility) it would/could be a very difficult life for you... someday you may be thankful you didn't marry him. It may be something to hold on to right now when emotions are raw and you feel so hurt.
Did he ever mention marriage (at all- even hints) before last week? Did you know how they felt about you during that 7 years of dating? That's a long time to date someone - shouldn't be too many surprises at this point in time.

We talked marriage for a few years. We decided that we would not move in with each other or marry until my youngest graduated high school. His parents had no problem with me for years until he told them we were living together. He hadn’t seen his family in 4 years that was his choice. I know I dodged a bullet but it hurts as it came out of the blue.
