Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Now, I don't want this thread to get into a male vs. female fight, because it could very easily happen. Sometimes in relationships there is a constant battle for dominance, rather than a search for balance. The man will retreat because he is feeling emasculated by his partner, and the woman will retreat because she is feeling her emtional needs are not being met.
So how do you find the balance? In my personal experience, I was willing to find the balance. I bought the flowers, did the little things, always wanted to know what was on her mind, how she was feeling, what she was thinking, etc, but after constantly being rejected I just couldn't do it anymore. Sex was turned into a reward for good behavior. I got tired of waking up knowing that this was just another day on the calendar that my wife was going to deny me.
And then she said she left me because I was emotionally dead. Well, what do you think played a factor in that? The constant feeling of being unwanted my my wife was a HUGE factor. But even when I told her this, she threw the "not meeting her needs" in my face, but never could tell me what that meant. So both of us retreated, but whereas I stepped up to the plate and said "ok, this has to change, lets work on it", she didn't want to admit that she had to make any changes.
So it becomes a vicious circle where no one wins, and everyone loses.
Anyway...since leaving her...and not just for that reason of course, i have had about 8 partners. None of them were one night stands and i'm still great friends with one and talk to a few of the others.
Yes, there are nites when i have to go without and pop in a dvd and handle it myself lol But then again i am a sex addict and have a higher drive than a rampaging bull on steroids !! lol Rest assured tho, it's safe sex. But i still am having more sex than i did when i was married. Some people can go without, but i just choose not to.
"If you're having awesome sex, chances are your relationship is pretty good. "
We were having awesome sex but, my relationship obviously wasnt good as the bastard left me!
As you said some people use sex as a reward and or a weapon... That would be both male and female! That to me is horrible!
I will tell you this.... in my marriage, I did not want to have sex, because I always felt raped, used and discarded. However, I was not given the option of saying no! After my divorce I actually went 15 years without anything,, no, not even a BOB, because to me sex was horrible! (I now know differently, thank God!) I seriously thought it was all my problem, where actually after 15 years of therapy, I have come to discover that it was not actually the act of sex that was the problem.. My whole marriage was the problem! If we were able to find out what the real problem was then there may have been a chance that I would have enjoyed it with him and actually wanted to be with him.
Am I making any sense here at all? When I hear someone say (anyone say) that the whole problem in the break-up of a relationship was because the sex was not good, or there was not enough, then it kinda disgusts me. In my opinion, bad or not enough sex is just a symptom of serious problems.
I am really sorry that your wife would not vocalize the problems that she was having in your marriage. That had to have been very frustrating!
How did humans get so messed up that some of us view sex as a recreational activity instead of an intimate bond?
