Someone talking to me about sexual things (not in the context of gaining information) who is not my partner or potential partner is uncomfortable for me. But I have had times in the past where my partner attended strip clubs and I really didn't like that either.
So what is the difference? The level of trust or lack thereof? Or the intimacy of a private message on a cell phone as opposed to a public display?

The question becomes, are you being true to what you want for yourself in the context of the relationship. If not you are not being true to yourself and will come to resent yourself and your partner. If your partner cannot or will not do what you want in the relationship, even after you've given them a chance to change the behavior.
NEXT! DONE! NEXT! Why stay where your wishes are not respected when you could be with a partner who will respect them? Why? Why the fuck stay there?
However, where it falls on the Cheat-o-Meter will clearly vary from person to person.
My ex had a 'sexting' affair with a woman that we both knew, when I found those emails it nearly killed me.
Finding evidence of his physical affair didn't kill me either.
He never admitted that the sexting affair was an affair until I threatened to send them to his other mistress. The look in his eyes of fear that his perfect, little mistress might suffer a moment of pain is what made him realize that the sexting was an affair.
By the way, it was that look that killed the old me.
