Was there any educational issue, beyond your ex-wife's attitude. I mean, with your kid.
That said, the school has an alternative school available. It consists of home-based course work on a computer mixed in with some at school classes.
I was told that when a kid ditches so much and the parent and the kid do not deal with it, there really is no way to make it up in the remainder of the class year. An alternative has to be done.
If you only focus on your fury that you were not informed by your ex-wife, you kind of miss the point.
Yes, you should have been informed. But do you stay connected to your kid and check the school work? Or ask over time, how the kid is doing in school? Some schools have online parental access to progress reports and attendance. Did you have that? Can you get it?
I'd say that the most important thing to do is to pursue the best option for your child's success in school. Identify and resolve whatever it is that resulted in ditching and failing classes. mental illness, emotional problems, drugs or booze, bad friends, whatever.
Teenagers are difficult. Teenagers in a divorce situation even more so.
Some type of counseling.

healed and squared away.
