I've lost 2 good friends in combat. One in 2006, and another this past September.
Let them NEVER be forgotten.
And while I'm continually reminded..and somewhat haunted by my professional work and past 2 relationships (active duty ex husband, and active duty very recent ex bf) I shall put that all aside today.
The land of the free...BECAUSE of the brave.
Continue to rest in peace my friends. It's an honor to have you watching over us all.

freedom is so tenuous. we could have lost world war one and two.
Your ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Veteran's Day is to remember all of those who have actively served in the military and have been honorably discharged or retired.
Those currently deployed should be thanked everyday but today and Veteran's Day are not for their recognition.
It really irks me that so few people even know why they have today off!
The recent friend I lost was one heck of a guy....he is dearly missed. He was actually a friend of my ex husband's....who ended up being a part of my family.
When everything went down with my ex..he was right there for me. I will never forget him knocking on my front door one evening after his work day. My ex was out of state on military business....and he knew what was going on.
I remember answering the door, had been crying my eyes out all day..still in my pajamas at 5:30 pm with swollen eyes. He let me cry on his shoulder. He scooped up my then 5 yr old son and took him to his house with him. He told me to take my time and to come to his home to have dinner with his own wife and son when I was ready.
One fantastic guy. I am blessed to have crossed paths with him....and his wife. I will never forget him..or his kindness.
Freedom is, indeed, not free.
