my plan of action when things get difficult is to handle the problem straight forward, get to the solution as soon as possible then fall apart when someone else can take over.
unfortunately, there has been no one to take over for me in a long long time. *sigh* And I'm finding I don't need them as much as I just want a break.

I often sit on a problem until it reaches a critical time and then I'm so crystallized and focussed and excited I do my best thinking/work.

Theres nothing like pressure!

I've also got a plan of action for when things get difficult:

*stop what I'm doing*

*cry like a baby* or

*ignore it, it'll go away soon enough*

"They" say that we men are typically too "solution-oriented" and I have found that to be true for myself in the past. I have found that finding a solution isn't always necessary. Sometimes, it's just a matter of listening, or seeing that something is what it is for that moment and that maybe I don't need to do a damn thing about it! Certainly easier that way.

I mean if a pipe is leaking, well, you gotta fix that....but if my son is having a hard time with one of his friends...that's not something I can or want to find a solution to, but I can help him examine his feelings about it and let him find his answer.

Yeah Frank, I do that pounding thing too. But it's usually more like throwing. I have learned if I'm inside, to just throw things at one wall, make them non-breakable - and they have to make a lot of noise. Otherwise if I'm outside, I throw rocks at a tree or into the stream. Problem with that is that my pile of rocks are covered with ice and snow for the winter.
