I read an article about a cop from California that was shot in the head during the Las Vegas, and after he was shot, his fiancee rushed to cover him, and she was shot as well. According to the article, both are recovering. I choked up after reading the article.
It brought me back to a time when I was a cop in Baltimore during the Freddie Gray riot. My crew and I were transported to the western part of the city, an area that we were unfamiliar of at the time. Our first stop was a convenience store where rioters were causing damage to the street and other businesses. I witnessed someone threw a Molotov cocktail at a parked car and lit it up in flames. We still stood our grounds with lack of riot gears and holding broomsticks. We were then moved to a mall and rioters had rioters made their way destroying several stores. After we got them running, we were babysitting one of the outlet stores until a crew came by to board up the damaged windows.
I left my cell phone in my car at the time, and I had no way of letting my wife, who was my fiance at the time, know I was ok. I borrowed my partner's phone, and when she picked up and heard my voice, she cried. She was watching CNN in what was happening, and she was worried sick. She even called my buddy, who was my Field Training Officer, to know if he had heard from me. She also told my buddy that she would kill anyone if anything happened to me. Just to know that you had someone who showed so much love was overpowering. But to have that taken away, just like that, is even more powerful. As I am typing this, I am at work trying to hold myself together and not lose it. My eyes are getting watery, and I am hiding from people at work. I am so tired of thinking about her every day. I am tired of having a constant reminder that I was loved by someone who I thought I knew, but don't anymore.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...
