OT - Laptop issue

Quick question. I have an hp laptop (2 years old, not under warranty). The ac adapter must be wiggled at the point it is plugged into the computer, in order to work. Even then, any movement causes the batter to stop charging (led light goes off). Could I be lucky enough that this is simply the adapter problem, or will I need to go inside the computer and royally fuck it up? Thanks.

More than likely its probably not the adapter, and it is the socket receiver, trust, had this problem, actually not a bad fix, in some cases though you may need to sauter (if I spelled it right) the metal and that is when it becomes tricky...

I had the same issue but I bought a unviersal adapter and it worked the old ones wires were bad. I was also having to move the wire around for the battery to kick in

hey rman I just had the same problem with my hp laptop. Bought a new adapter at wal-mart (easy return if it doesn't work), and it's all fixed.

the adapter part was coming loose from the black connector bit. I kept having to bend and wiggle it into different angles to keep the charge going. I started eventually getting really bad power surges with it, where the power would just go off even with a full battery but only when it was plugged in. The one I got is now $68. Look online and you can see if it supports your laptop... It seems to be universal for all HP Compaqs

just in case anyone is wondering. I'm A+ certified, and design computer components for a living.
Is there anyway you could take a short video of the problem, showing the plug in the socket, wiggling it, then pulling the plug out?
It's most likely the socket INSIDE the laptop, and that is it... then you are in trouble. The circuit boards inside laptops, especially newer ones (like yours) are VERY thin and delicate. Just getting the system board out of one is a feat and should only be done in an ESD safe environment (if you don't know what that means, PUT THE SCREWDRIVER DOWN NOW!).
I have fixed problems like this... I've even drilled holes in circuit boards inside computers and jumpered broken traces.
I'm really hoping it is the plug on the end of the power supply (the box in the middle of your cord)
just so that you know, the charging circuitry is INSIDE the laptop... the cord and box is simply a power supply.
How did this damage happen? was it the typical, cord-gets-yanked-and-pulls-laptop-off-table-and-lands-on-plug thing?

You know... if the is the type of plug that is hollow in the middle, the plastic tube in there could be broken, that could cause it to jiggle and have a poor contact.

and in my professional opinion...I think its the laptop user thats the problem...and I don't think that can be fixed....sorry Rdude ;)
