I am so sick of this cold weather. Lately I feel myself longing for open water. I am going stir crazy and feeling boxed in on land now that there is skim ice on the Potomac River.
How I long to be out sailing. I wish that it was summer when I was in the position because I would take a few weeks and explore the Chesapeake Bay Region some more. I would love to go back to Annapolis, St. Michaels, and maybe as far north as Baltimore. I would love to go by Smith Island again and then by Tangier.
There is a peace that I find when I am sailing. It is like nothing else that I have found. There have been times where I look out and realize that all is right with the world. The life is so much simpler because the problems that come up are more basic.
Another thing that I notice more when I am out there is the beauty of nature. Some things that most people would just pass by on a normal day show themselves and burn bright in my memory. It was like the sunset that I saw in Cobb Island last September or the sunrise that I watched on the Rhode River when I was en route to Annapolis a few years ago.
During my cruising I have met some amazing people. Every time I meet new people I realize how unique cruisers are. There aren't any strangers, only friends willing to lend a hand, share a story, or even a drink. Why can't the world be more like this?
