I sadly have a daughter like that. She is looking for a dad who was never there for her. He smashed her dreams and would never listen to her dreams or tell her she had to be what he wanted her to be.
An absent father or one who puts you down is a sure bet a girl will turn to other men for attention!

I am not sure, because yet to have an expirience. I think just doing what you have said "providing them with love and support" will do it and you have to watch teen years.

I know quite a few dancers I danced when I was younger and yes most of them had a bad family life and trouble finding the right kind of man myself included. I know have a new born daughter and I think the only thing we can do is show them they are loved and be there for them no matter what bad choices they make in life. I have a feeling my little ones father is not going to be around much and I worrie about that but I am going to do the best I can with her. Just be there and love them I am just glad to hear there are fathers that care. Good luck hun!

My dad always made sure he was in my life (granted my parents aren't divorced but I don't really think that'll be a big deal).

I have a friend who's divorced and he calls his daughter EVERY night... to say good night to talk about their days... etc. They have this ritual...

They start with the "downs"of the day.. no matter what they are they tell each other.. then the finish with the "ups" of their days... even if they were small and insignificant.

I love hearing him on the phone with his little girl. She tells him about the pretty dress she wore or about the pretty butterfly she saw... he tells her about how he had the best ice cream and that when she comes to see him he'll take her there...

They do this really great little thing together... when they are on the phone he listens to her prayer for the night... It's adorable.

My dad did those things... although he was there every night. I don't really think it has to be any different for you and your girls!

Encourage them to play sports. Go to their events/games. Cheer them on. Pay attention to their schoolwork and most importantly, let them know what you expect as far as after high school....what do you want them to achieve? Parents need to stay involved until there is a career I think. Make sure they feel unconditional love from you. Avoid criticizing. Really listen to them, always, even if what they are saying is hard. Girls will shut down if their dad is minimally involved, to avoid being hurt. Schedule things with them and daily happy moments...even a bedtime story, whatever. They need to feel really special to you.

You are going to be fine, you have the first step handled... you are asking this question, sad to say most fathers don't give a shit... and for that fact there are some mothers too, that don't give a shit...

be there for them at all times, even the times you are not right there.....

I wasn't close to my dad at all growing up and I think that really influenced my future relationships with men. Even though my husband has a lot of faults, I still encourage him to have as close of a relationship as possible with our daughter. I think the key is that they feel loved and special. I'm sure you're doing a great job of that, Rman :)

Ok I didn't have a big relationshp with my dad when my parents divorced when I was 13...in fact didn't develop one until I was in my early 20s...yes I chose some bad boyfriends in HS....never to this extreme...but BOTH my mom and dad raised me with morals....so I overcame those bad relationships in my teen years...

RMAN you are doing just fine....children that have love from adult figures weather it is mom, dad, aunt, uncle, Grandparents....they tend to go in the right direction....

Make sure your in her life and talk to her about her future goals often. Talk to her about college etc. If your in her life she is less likely to be like this.
