I have been in a relationship for 18months.
After 8 years of being on my own and several car crash relationships I thought I had met someone I could spend the rest of my life with.
When we first met his Mum had cancer and she sadly passed away 8 months ago. We came back off holiday and out of the blue he said it was over - he wanted to go travelling - I have kids and he does not want to take these on (even though I have raised them for 8 years alone and financially provided for them) he is saying he needs space to greave.
This was 2 weeks ago and I have not really spoke to him - I have cut contact - however last night he was saying he was down and depressed.
On one hand I do not want to wait on the side lines in the hope he takes me back or be messed about however if he is depressed I want to be here for him.
What shall I do - I do not want to be a mug however if he is depressed should I be the one to help him???

Sorry for the situation. My ex and I witnesses both her parents fight bravely against cancer. It was really tough for all involved.
I understand the grieving time and wanting to be alone to deal. The one part of your story that was a red flag is the fact he said he does not want to take these (your kids) on. Perhaps I'm reading that wrong? Anyway, if that is true, you and your kids are a packaged deal.
I would revisit that and get some clarification. Good luck!
