Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Ive taken your advice to take care of myself - and it's helping a lot. Little by little I am getting stronger, gaining a lot of clarity about my stbx and can see him for the "man" he really is. And I use the term loosely.
My biggest roadblock is learning to let go of whatever he's saying to others. But he does know how to push my buttons, He threatened to ask for more than alternate weekends and a day during the week with my girls - that was my last straw. I can deal with his selfish attitude, trying to mess me up financially - but DO NOT threaten time with my girls.
To be honest, my immediate reaction was that I broke down and was hysterical. But I pulled myself together. I realize he is deliberately trying to make me look unstable and like a loose canon. Well, I'm on to him. And my walls are going up. As much as it kills me that he is STILL living in the house during this divorce process - I will play his messed up game of being super passive and phony and will be nice to him - like he is to me. I know it's all for show. He's taking the girls to church every sunday, started to learn how to cook for them, give me a break!! I can see right through his phony act!
I will say that it still agitates me that he says things in front of the girls to put me in a bad light and seem like the bad guy - by asking..."are you sure there's no way we can try and fix the is?" "I still love you" "I'm really trying" OMG! And he backs me in a corner and I'm the one saying NO. And yet, I STILL never bad mouth him and I still protect him for the girls sake. This is confusing enough for them, I wouldn't dare put a fear in the heads about the kind of person their father really is - not now - they are just too young and fragile.
GOD! STBX is such an ASS!!! I hate him!
Good for you, to be able to see through him and keep those walls up. I am so proud of you. Keep it up

It will get better when you aren't living together. You have to talk positively and rationally to yourselfremind yourself you'll get through it.
I love this saying: Never fight with a pig, you can't win, you both get dirty and the pig likes it!
You're taking the high road, good for you. This will pass, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Always keep the focus on your kids as you have, and as others have said find ways to take care of yourself. You tube has some great meditation videos (some are on stress reduction)..go for walks (when you have the energy) and praying helps me.
Hugs.
Ariadne - It is hard to close down the joint accounts yet because he is still living here and we pay the bills together for our home.
IamDone - thank you for the advice - I love the bubble visual too! I will say, the high road is very difficult at times. But I know I am doing right by my girls. I know that I am genuine with them. My actions and things i say and do are not just for show. I have been and will remain the constant in their lives.
I looked up and found some really great meditation exercises - thanks! Sending you strength and peace as well.
Something you said really hit home for me. You've started healing. I never looked at it that way. I always thought I'm living in limbo while going through this process. And it was depressing. I felt like I'm wasting precious time. But truth be told, with the help of therapy since October and DS I do see a change in myself :)
I have my moments, but I can look back and see how far I've come and how much stronger I am now. I can feel the real me coming through again - it made me feel better about myself and where I'm at. I'm more relaxed overall when he's not around / working late etc and I'm finding my patience again with my girls. I've been doing little fun things with them now to continue to make happy memories for them. So they don't look back as these being the "bad years".
The weirdest thing for me tho is the mind games - I'm pretending to be nice to him for the girls sake but I hate being phony. I hate how uncomfortable I feel around him.
I'm sorry for the years of abuse you suffered. I'm glad and inspired that you're standing up for yourself and moving towards a better life. You have a great birthday to look forward to ;)
Hugs,
