I wasn't scarred by it, nor were my brother and sisters.
I think that punishment, within reason is needed.
I also remember some of the trips we took, coffee cans full of pee, a picture of me 4 yrs old, peeing at the roadside and a gator comining up behind me, being the 7th person in a car, in the 70's traveling from Wisconsin to Texas either on the floor between peoples feet, or lying across them.
Now, my kids have heated leather seats, TV, game access, plus their ipods, computers, and personal DVD players.
Oh--- And I didn't need to be drugged! My actions and body did it for me.
At 2, I rocked my chair so hard I cracked my head open (because the plates in my skull weren't set, have a dent, and am refrained from head injuries. At 4, I fell into a poisonous cacti at a botanical garden, it took weeks to get over because my winter coat hid the quills (worse thing was they shut the area down until safetly measures were put in - of which I was invited to the unveiling) About that time, I came down with hideous food allergies, I brok out with palm size welts over my body if I ate the wrong thing. Worst thing was, I would get them on my butt and private parts, and in the early 70's, squirming in your seat was unaccceptable.
So, actually, because of all that, my parents felt sorry, but still gave me the paddle.
