I have 3 pets,2 cats and a dog, 9 lbs, one of the cats weighs 17 lbs plus 3 lbs for the carrier. And the cat is sick. The other cat is not sick, but no lightweight either. The diabetic cat got very sick a week ago, and stbx is taking care of them.

With my upcoming surgery on my hip, it isn't a good idea to take them back and afterwards, I feel the same. I feel, let him have them... Because I am so very tired. Am I wrong

take some timeout for recovery and break. maybe you are feeling this because you are feeling tired and feel physically weak from surgery.
but do show your stbx your appreciation for taking care of your pet. he could have said no in the first place but he didnt. kindness should be repaid with kindness not with ignorance

thank you for your reply. yes, he didn't have to take them in...The truth is, I am so very tired......I will always have the dog, she walks on a leash.

Pets do amazing things for our wellbeing and recovery....helping them....may help you too ?

I dont think you are wrong if you know he will take good care of them. I got in a situation in March where I could no longer keep my (our) dog. He had been wanting her anyway. And it was best for her with a yard to play in and other pups to play with. I miss her, but its still best for her

We had two cats and we ended up each keeping one cat. He had asked if would keep both because it would be easier for him to find an apartment but I said I'd prefer if he kept the one cat because the cat had chosen him as *his person*. It was bad enough that he broke my heart but for him to break a poor little kitty heart too was just the last straw for me. I miss the cat but I didn't want a sad kitty too.

So as long as you're not *the person* chosen by either cat (most cats are sort of neutral anyway when it comes to people :) ), I'd say to do whatever you feel is best for you. You sound like you're more attached to your dog.

Best of luck to you on your surgery by the way. I hope it goes well and that your recovery and therapy afterwards go well and relatively painlessly.
