My wife of 18 years started talking to an old friend from High School and now they are in love, soul mates, whatever you want to call them. We live in Washington State and she wants to take the kids and move to Florida with this guy, who has no job, just a house his mom left him when she died and he is living off his savings. I don't want her to go and hope when she goes to her reunion this weekend she see's him and realizes its a terrible mistake. I have an attoney that says she can't leave the state if I file papers requesting a parental plan but also that I have a good shot of getting custody of my two kids. I don't want this to get ugly, expensive or have the kids caught in the middle. Any suggestions of makeing this as easy as possible without giving into whatever she wants and hurting the kids.

She's free to leave the state...but she cannot take the kids. You have to get a lawyer and put it in writing. This is a slam dunk.

What do you think your kids will want to do? The 16 year old is probably going to do whatever (s)he wants. (On the upside, Florida is miserable during the summer, so if (s)he goes to Florida, there's a better than average chance (s)he'll go down for a month or two, and then head home to Washington.)
Regarding the 16 year old, sometimes older kids' interests are considered by the parenting mediator and judge, but with a huge move like this, I doubt it. This is not living with Mom one town over. It's living with Mom across country, thereby limiting Dad's opportunity to see the child. Won't fly.
