In my past relationships we went from liking each other to a relationship so when the relationship ended I've lost a bf or partner. My H was the first guy I ever dated that was my best friend for over a year before we even thought about going out. I was even against it cause I was afraid of losing his friendship. We dated, we got married, had kids and now our marriage came to an end but so did our friendship. I'm hurting about losing a husband but I'm also mourning the loss of a friend, I really miss my best friend. I don't want a relationship, or a boyfriend, not looking for a special friend either but I really wish I had a friend like the one I used to have.

You're lucky your husband WAS your best friend...at least for a time. Many are not. Remember the good times, and someday...you may find an even BETTER friend!

i feel the same way. i started dating my H when i was 15 and am now 30 so he has been my best friend half of my life. that is why i find no contact so hard. he has always been the one person i could tell anything to. i am with you!

Even through the hurt he is still the person I want to talk to, I always felt so comfortable talking to him. He has been a jackass as a man and as a husband but a good friend - that is the part I miss.

I entirely agree. I'd been with my W since I was 16, she was also my best friend, for a long stretch of time my only friend. I miss her in so many ways, not the least of which as my friend, as that one person I could always talk to about anything and not feel ridiculous.

My XH was my classmate, my friend, my colleague, my team player, my co-parent, my lover, my "consiglieri" , my critic, my advisor, my peer, my consultant, my emotional support, my right leg and my left hand.....but at the end, it turned out it was all fake, so what good is it?
Im trying VERY hard to leave all the past behind.....it does me no good to dwell on it.....

i miss the friend i thought he was before i started seeing him for the person i see now since ive been healing. he knew more about me than my 2 previous long term therapists combined.
used it against me too - and best friends dont do that.

I feel like there is a tightness in my chest that never goes away. He was so deceitful and behaved so incredibly selfishly, even where his kids are concerned. But I still miss what I perceived to be the close friend. At 47 I hope I can have that friend again. This time a real one.
