Maybe you're looking on this the wrong way. I think we listen to the shit because we're not quite sure that we're making the right decisions but the more they dish it out the more we believe who they really are.
So..you took one step back and two steps forward.
You didn't fall for anything..you gave him a chance and he blew it yet again.

Jen don't beat yourself up over this. Its all hard dealing with the break up and the emotions and then the thoughts of a reconciliation with someone who says they would change. I cant say that I wouldn't jump all over it myself if that opportunity presented itself to me. Now you just have to get back on track. and stop beating yourself up sweetie. Like Julia said you didn't fall for anything you just gave him another chance. He is the one who screwed it up.

It's not easy. You're not an idiot. You're not back to square one by any means. The more he screws up, the more you are able to realize that what you are doing is the right thing for you. So, take it as a lesson well-learned. You didn't fall for his shit . . . you just gave him that one more chance to prove to you what you're doing is the right thing. When it's all over one day, you'll have no doubts because you gave him every opportunity possible to make good. Know what I mean??

I know that I also did this more times than I care to admit. In the end he was still and addict that couldn't get his pants zipped. 3 years later his addictions and his cheating are worse than ever.
He ruined your life, don't give him another chance to do it again.

Don't beat yourself up, Jen. It's normal to want to believe them when they say they've changed. Hard to let go of that love and trust.

But you've seen that he won't change so you will be a lot smarter when he comes around again (and believe me, he will come around again).

My stbx did the same kind of stuff, only with him it was the whole "let's be friendly during our divorce" crap. After a few times of hearing this and getting "slapped" by his cruelty and verbal abuse, I finally saw the light and said "Enough."

This is just a temporary set back. Keep moving forward.

We all want to believe the people we care about cares about us as well; whether that is just our friends or those we have chosen to be with in marriage or even just have feelings for. Unfortunately that some times gets us in situations like this where we put our blinders on to those things they already proved to us; that they don't really care and it is just lip service.

We all want top believe but there comnes a point whwere we have to be true to ourselves and sometimes that means realizing that the relationship is toxic for us and this person or people just do not share the same respect and feelings for us that we do for them.

It is up to you to know that you deserve someone in your life that will treat you with the respect you deserve and will not lie to get what they want but will follow through and have both of yours best interest in mind.
