What I do believe is consciousness is non-local. It permeates, or is in fact, the most fundamental fabric of existence.
Through some fundamental force of nature, perhaps described by quantum mechanics, a very small portion of that cosmic consciousness shines through in us.
Since we are many, many layers of particles and forces removed from the underlying fabric of everything, our perception is extremely limited. Our minds only allow a very miniscule portion of the cosmic consciousness to manifest itself in our thoughts.
When our bodies fail us, that thread of cosmic consciousness that is in fact us is reunited with the whole. We once again know Truth. Call it Heaven. Call it Paradise. Call it Valhalla, whatever. It's all one in the same.
..........................Huh.......................?
Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?'
And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'"
(Matthew 25.35-40 ESV)
Seems to me Jesus is saying pretty much what I posted. Oneness. Interconnectedness. Quantum entanglement...
Jesus spoke in terms people of his time could understand.
