Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
I didn't write or tell him how effed up his family treated me while he was gone because why would I put unecessary burdens on him? When he came home, and they did a welcome home party, his family ignored me...completely. He asked me what happened, so I told him. His response was, "I wasn't here, so I can't address it."
Well, I think the fact I was getting treated that way should've been a red flag for him about my feelings with his family, but it wasn't.
Fast forward, he wouldn't put mefirst on several other, maybe smaller, instances. He played softball four nights a week, and I would tell him he needed to cut back because I was also working, but now I was expected to take care of the house, bills, and our son while he played. He said I wasn't supportive, and didn't.
I would ask him to do things with me, as a couple, but his job often made him work late. I later found out he wasn't HAVING to work late...he was volunteering.
He does security for an investment company, and I would tell him, (when it got toward the end) "Christ, you're not protecting Obama. How does everyone else in the world get a day off, but you can't?"
Anyhow, my point is, I completely understand being put last...and it's wrong. Period. A soupse doesn't have to blindly agree with the other one...but his or her feelings surely have to be important and matter equal to, of not more, than your own.
Look back over your history. Two years post divorce, I can see where conflict-avoidance is a HUGE part of my X's personality...it didn't "start" when we got married, it had always been there.
If he doesn't stand up for you now, especially when he sees the affect it has on you...he never will.
Do not make someone a priority who only makes you his option.
