Ok I have been divorced almost two years the ex has custody of the kids that was the only way he would give me the divorce. The kids are 14, 16 and almost 18. Since we live in the same town it has not been fun the ex showing up at my house coming in. There is no way I can have a life. Well about a year ago I meet someone and we really had that connection but life got in the way recently in the past couple of months he has gotten in touch with me the problem is he has moved to another state> I have been to visit him and everything is wonderful. This is the person that I want to be with. After 24 yrs in my marriage I have found what it is supposed to be. I want to move down to where this man is but is it wrong to leave the kids. They are well adjusted since the divorce and understand why I left there dad. I would actually see them more if they came to visit on vacations and summer. My kids I have always put first and done everything for. I am not abandoning them and will always be there for them.

how often do you see your kids? how often would you see them if you moved to another state?

I see my 17 yr old son maybe once a week in passing, my 14 about once a week and then the 15 yr old a couple of time. I would actually have more quality time if they came on school breaks and summer vacations.

How do they feel about it? You don't even have to mention the man. But if you up and decided to move to another state.....the only way you can know what they would feel about it is if you ask them and personally that would be the deciding factor for me. I know you can't always give your kids what they want but what they want and what they need are two very different things to consider. So do they need your time and attention more so than a man you only know for two years or just a year or you are still getting to know because to me I don't think it's wise to up and move on with another man at this point in time but that is just how I operate because I have made that mistake once and it's not happening again to me so that is the advice I would give someone in your situation.

I wonder at how your X wanting custody was the only way he would give you a divorce? I mean, my X could've wanted X, Y, and Z and I would've been like "wanting and getting are two different things." He maybe would've wanted full custody, and that's great, but it wasn't going to happen.

I question how much this new guy truly cares for you if he up and moved to another state. Sounds selfish to me. If I am in a relationship that is serious, I would never think of moving out of state. DON'T DO IT! You will regret it! Your kids need you now more than ever as teenagers. You see them now at least once a week...To me, that is better than seeing them in the summer and on vacations.

My x would only give me custody because that is his control over me still. And the guy did not move while we were seeing each other. He moved and then we found each other.

Its a tough one as even though the kids are older they still need that support through their teen years.

I would speak to them and see how they feel! to be fair if the new guy loves you then you could have a long distance relationship??

relationships come and go but you have a responsibility to your children for life!!
