Is it cheating?

A number of years ago I found out that my wife was having what I consider an adulterous relationship with an ex-boyfriend. The contact consisted of lewd emails, phone calls (I don't know the contents) and texts. Many steps were taken to ensure that I did not find out about this and it continued on for a number of months. The ex lived about 100 miles away and during this period of time my wife made at least one trip to the general area. Would you considering this cheating?

If it was kept a secret, covered up with dihonesty and denile i would have to consider it cheating, but that is my own definition.

Yes, she had an emotional affair. Usually claims to be just friends, but lewd emails, texts, phone calls constitute an emotional affair. The icing on the cake is the lying and hiding. In a true, honest marriage, things don't need to be hidden or lied about.

Ditto what TryingToMakeIt said. Yes, it's cheating--definitely an emotional affair,and--I'm sorry--but probably physical too if she visited there at least once.

of course it is cheating.

but, the trip to the "general area" is circumstantial. one should not infer a tryst.

technically, any thought, word, or deed that is not an appropriate positive toward one's spouse is cheating. a person committed to love their spouse does not even entertain thoughts of another.

This coming from a cheater..... yes it is cheating! So sorry you are going through this! It is an emotional thing which can sometimes be even harder to break off((((HUGS))))

Yes, it's cheating plain and simple. She gave her heart to someone else. It's the biggest cheat of all.

Yes, what Trying said. Anytime a spouse goes as far to lie and hide contact with another and claims to be "just friends" is an emotional affair. There should never be a need to hide any friendship from your spouse.
